  Washington to build life

  science companies."

HOPE FOR THE FUTURE

For the employees of M3 Biotechnology, their work is personal. Many of the researchers, advisers and leaders at this Seattle-based life sciences start-up have seen the effects of Alzheimer’s disease among their family and friends.

That experience is helping drive their work.

The company is developing therapeutic treatment that could reverse the effects of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and other neurodegenerative diseases.

“We’re working on something that could help millions around the world,” says CEO Leen Kawas.

M3 is just one of a growing number of life-science companies in Washington state. The industry supports more than 100,000 jobs with an annual payroll of $2 billion, and yet Kawas warns the state could fall behind if it doesn’t look for ways to support life sciences.

“Yes, there is true hope,” Kawas says.
